COLUMBUS, Ohio (ADAMS) – Federal REAL ID rules are set to begin next year.
Starting May 2023, Ohio residents will need the enhanced identification card to board flights and enter secure federal buildings.
Having the REAL ID issued requires some extra paperwork including a passport, birth certificate, or visa; a current license; and two documents proving residency, such as utility bills. Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles officials are urging individuals to get the new ID prior to the deadline, with only 46 percent of Ohioans making the switch so far.
