ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash on I-469 early Wednesday morning that left one person critically injured.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. near the Wheelock Road overpass and involved a Ford Edge and a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Police say the two vehicles collided, but don’t know yet why.
Following the impact, police say the Trailblazer veered off the road, went down an embankment, and caught fire. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency responders transported the Trailblazer driver to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Ford Edge sustained only minor injuries.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the incident.

On 04/30/2025, at approximately 12:26 am, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of I-469 Southbound near the 24.6 mile marker.
While officers were en route, dispatch received a call from an involved party, saying she was located in the area of Wheelock Rd. and Earlmont Dr. Upon arrival, officers located a blue Ford Edge near the intersection of Wheelock Rd. and Earlmont Dr., and blue Chevy Trailblazer down the embankment of I-469 Southbound near the 24.6 mile marker.
A preliminary investigation indicates that both vehicles were southbound I-469 when they collided for unknown reasons. The Chevy Trailblazer then traveled off the south side of I-469 Southbound, down the embankment, rolled, and caught fire. The Ford Edge had traveled off the south side of the roadway, down the embankment, coming to rest in the area of Wheelock Rd. and Earlmont Dr.
The driver of the Chevy Trailblazer was ejected and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford edge was assessed for minor injuries at the scene by medics. The crash is still under investigation and motorists are asked to avoid the area for the next couple of hours.
