FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who was fatally struck early Saturday morning at S Lafayette Street and Williams Street. 37-year-old Luis Antonio Figueroa Jr. was pronounced dead at the hospital after being taken from the scene. The vehicle that hit him took off. The FWPD is asking anyone with information to come forward.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following on Monday:
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified by a local hospital regarding the death of Luis Antonio Figueroa Jr, male, Hispanic, age 37, from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Luis Antonio Figueroa Jr. was a bicyclist who was found down on the roadway near a heavily damaged bicycle in the 2000 block of Lafayette Street. He was transported to a local hospital where death was pronounced.
An autopsy had been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin.
Luis Antonio Figueroa Jr’s Cause of Death is Multiple Blunt Impact Injuries Due to Bicyclists Versus Motor Vehicle Crash and the Manner of Death is Accident.
Luis Antonio Figueroa Jr, is the 17th traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2025.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Initially, the FWPD released the following:
FWPD is currently investigating a hit and run accident that has claimed life of a male bicyclist.
Just after 4:30 am, FWPD received a call regarding a male on the ground near S Lafayette Street and Williams Street with a bicycle near him.
When Officers arrived, they found an unconscious male laying in the roadway. Medical aid was started by the Officers and then medics took over once on scene. The male was transported to a local hospital in life threatening condition but was later pronounced deceased.
There is limited information at this time regarding this incident. FWPD FACT (Fatal Accident Crash Team) team is currently working diligently to collect all available information.
