FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The City says that due to rehabilitation work, the Parnell Avenue Bridge will be closed beginning May 12 and is not expected to reopen until September 18.
Drivers will need to find an alternate route. The official detour route utilizes East State Boulevard, Crescent Avenue, North Anthony Boulevard, and Coliseum Boulevard.
The City of Fort Wayne released the following:
The Parnell Avenue Bridge over the St. Joseph River was originally built in 1927, widened in 1970 and widened again in 1993. The scope of the project consists of replacing the bridge deck, repairing spandrel arches and substructure, and upgrading sidewalks and approaches. Scour protection will be incorporated, which mitigates erosion, enhances structural stability and prolongs the lifespan of the bridge. This project will also include ADA curb ramps, improved pedestrian infrastructure connectivity and high visibility pavement markings.

The bridge improvement project is an investment of $2.687 million and is part of the overall $41.4 million in neighborhood infrastructure improvements planned throughout the community this year.
