STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Two people were hurt in a head-on crash in Steuben County over the weekend.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 10 p.m. on US 20, near County Road 20 North on Saturday. Once at the scene, officers say they located a vehicle in the middle of US 20 and another just off the roadway.
Police say the investigation indicates a gray 2009 Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound on US 20 crossed the center line on a curve in the roadway, striking a blue 2018 Chevy Trax that was driving westbound on US 20. The driver of the Nissan was trapped inside the vehicle but was freed by Orland Fire Rescue.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are not known.
The crash remains under investigation.

On 05/30/2025 just after 9:50 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s E911 received a report of a 2-vhehicle head-on collision on US 20 near CR 20 N in Steuben County’s rural Jackson Township. The 911 caller indicated that at least one of the drivers involved was injured. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene along with other first responders.
Upon the arrival of initial deputies, they located a vehicle in the middle of US 20 and a second vehicle just off of the south side of US 20. One of the driver’s appeared to be trapped inside the vehicle. Initial crash scene investigation indicated that a gray 2009 Nissan Rogue driven by 21-year-old Gabriel Malueg of Green Bay, WI was traveling eastbound on US 20 while a blue 2018 Chevy Trax driven by 42-year-old George Gondwe was traveling westbound on US 20.
As the 2 vehicles entered a curve in the roadway near the intersection of CR 20 N, Malueg’s vehicle traveled left of the center line and collided with Gondwe’s vehicle. The collision caused Malueg to suffer a serious injury to his arm and become trapped inside the vehicle. Once he was freed from the vehicle by Orland Fire Rescue, he and Gondwe, who complained of chest pain, were both transported to Cameron Hospital by Steuben County EMS for treatment.
Due to the severity of the crash and injuries sustained, the Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) was called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Seatbelts were in use and airbags did deploy in both vehicles. The roadway was dry and the weather was clear at the time of the crash. At this time, alcohol is not believed to be a factor however, possible drug impairment is still being investigated and those results are pending.
The crash still remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Steuben County FACT. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Orland Fire Department, Steuben County EMS, Indiana State Police, Angola Police, Orland Town Marshal’s Office, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division.
