FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – City Utilities says it will move forward with previously postponed maintenance work that will require temporarily lowering river levels to allow crews safe access to the work area.
City Utilities says that river levels will begin to be lowered on March 16, with the river expected to reach its temporary maintenance level by March 18.

The adjustment requires opening the Tainter Gate at the Hosey Dam, which temporarily lowers the river from its normal managed recreational level. Lowering the river allows crews to inspect and complete maintenance on a pipe located near the St. Marys River.
The work had originally been scheduled for last month but was postponed due to heavy snow and ice conditions that made it unsafe for crews to access the work area.
Once the river reaches the maintenance level, crews expect the work to take approximately two weeks to complete.
City Utilities recognizes that river levels are important to many residents who enjoy boating, paddling, and other recreational activities. The temporary adjustment is necessary to safely complete inspection and maintenance work that helps ensure the reliability of critical infrastructure.
River levels will be restored to their normal managed recreational level once the work is complete.
