FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation says the opening of City golf courses will look different this year. The City says the opening of courses will be delayed, but is expected this week.
The following was released on Friday (March 20, 2026):
As a part of its commitment to responsible course management and to provide the best possible experience for golfers, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation will open the city golf courses at some point next week. The delay will allow for improved turf conditions following recent weather patterns. Crews will continue to monitor and respond to these early-season weather impacts.
Manager of Golf Operations Gary Whitacre says, “We hope to open towards the end of the next week, if turf conditions permit.” He continues, “We are looking forward to a tremendous season!” This extra time will allow course conditions to reach a higher level of playability and supports long-term course quality and sustainability.
