MIAMI CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – ICE detainees are scheduled to arrive at the Miami Correctional Facility in Indiana this week. The Indiana Department of Corrections says the state’s contract with ICE starts on Wednesday.
Fewer than 100 detainees will arrive this week, but up to 1,000 detainees could be held at the facility over the next two years.
Clergy members gathered outside the facility on Monday to pray for dignity and respect for those who will be detained there. Organizers say additional prayer vigils at the facility are being planned.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The State Budget Committee has signed off on giving the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) nearly $16 million to make changes at the Miami Correctional Facility. The prison will be used by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to hold immigration detainees.
The money will be used on equipment purchases and upgrading the infrastructure at the prison.
The DOC signed an agreement with ICE on September 16 for two years, allowing adult men to be detained at Miami Correctional Facility.
