ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that two people have lost their lives in a six-vehicle pileup on southbound Interstate 69 in Fort Wayne. The crash between three semis and three passenger vehicles happened just before 2 p.m., and the southbound lanes of I-69 close to the 295-mile marker were closed for about eight hours.
One semi crashed into two stopped vehicles from behind, sending one into a ditch and the other into another semi. Both drivers of those passenger vehicles died at the scene, and a third passenger vehicle was hit from behind, going into the back of a third semi.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On June 3, 2026, at approximately 1:54 p.m., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of I-69 southbound, near the 295 mile marker, for a report of a multi-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers located multiple vehicles involved in a rear-end crash, including three passenger cars and three semi trucks.
A preliminary investigation indicates southbound semi truck #1 rear-ended passenger car #1, who was stopped in traffic. Semi truck #1 continued and rear-ended passenger car #2, forcing passenger car #2 off the roadway to the West. Semi truck #1 rear-ended semi truck #2, causing semi-truck #2 to rear end passenger car #3. Passenger car #3 was forced southbound and rear-ended semi truck #3.
Driver’s of passenger car #1 and passenger car #2 were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of semi truck #1 was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
