MERCER CO., Ohio (ADAMS) – The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department says that it is investigating a crash Sunday morning that left one Coldwater man with serious injuries.
According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, dispatch received a call at 8:18 a.m. for the crash at SR 219 and Burkettsville- St. Henry Road.
Police determined that 18-year-old Grant Ebbing from Coldwater was driving a 2021 Chevy pickup truck westbound on SR 219. A 2017 Honda sedan driven by 27-year-old Angel Martinez Cruz from St. Henry was driving northbound on Burkettsville-St. Henry Road. A release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department says that Cruz did not stop at the stop sign and hit the truck.
Ebbing was taken to a hospital in Mercer County, but was eventually flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for further treatment.
Cruz and a passenger, 29-year-old Celeste Velazquez of St. Henry, were both taken to a nearby hospital and later released, police said.
Police say the crash is still under investigation.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that his office is investigating a serious injury accident. Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 8:18 AM (11-6-2022) advising of a traffic crash at the intersection of SR 219 and Burkettsville-St.Henry Rd.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Grant Ebbing (18) of Coldwater was driving a 2021 Chevy pickup truck Westbound on SR 219. A 2017 Honda sedan driven by Angel Martinez Cruz (27) of St. Henry was Northbound on Burkettsville-St. Henry Rd, along with Celeste Velazquez (29) of St. Henry as his passenger. Cruz failed to stop for the stop sign on Burkettsville-St. Henry Rd. at SR 219and struck the Chevy pickup truck. Cruz and Velaquez were both transported by Coldwater EMS to Mercer Health and were treated and released. Ebbing was transported to Mercer Health by Coldwater EMS and flown by Lutheran Air to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Coldwater Fire Department, Coldwater EMS and MCERV (Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers).
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and the crash remains under investigation at this time. When the case is completed, it will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutors Office for review.
