FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Fort Wayne woman was taken into custody Friday night after police say she barricaded herself in a southeast side home with a machete.
The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says officers responded to a home in the 3500 block of Plaza Drive on reports of a disturbance where a person was armed.
At the scene, they were told that 32-year-old Bianca Hernandez was arguing with the father of her child when she grabbed a machete and started swinging it “wildly,” according to the FWPD.
Everyone inside left the home, but Bianca stayed and refused to come out when officers commanded.
Police say there were many attempts to get her to come out, but ultimately, officers were forced to enter the home by breaking through the front door.
Hernandez was taken into custody without further incident and preliminarily charged with Criminal Recklessness, a Level 6 Felony.

Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a disturbance involving an armed subject, Friday night in the area of 3500 Plaza Dr.
Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the homeowner, who advised, the suspect (Bianca Hernandez) was arguing with her child’s father, got upset, grabbed a machete and began swinging it wildly at the occupants in the home. The occupants exited the home and were locked out by Bianca. Despite continued efforts of loud hailing and telephone calls, Bianca refused to exit the home. A tactical team page was initiated, as a result of Bianca being barricaded in the home.
Tactical units arrived and continued efforts to get Bianca to exit the home voluntarily. After repeated failed attempts to get Bianca to exit the home of her own accord, tactical units breached the front door. Bianca, eventually then exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.
Suspect: Bianca Hernandez, 32 years of age
Preliminary Charges: Criminal Recklessness, Level 6 Felony
