FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says that a woman has died, and investigators are searching for an SUV they think struck her before leaving the scene. It happened around 1:40 Wednesday morning on East Rudisill.
The FWPD says she was crossing the road when a suspected large SUV driving eastbound hit her. She died later at the hospital.
Police are asking anyone with information or video footage from the area to come forward.
The FWPD released the following:
On April 29, 2026, at 1:41am, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck in the 200 block of E. Rudisill Blvd. Officers arrived and located an adult female in the roadway who appeared to be in lifethreatening condition. The adult female was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Initial information indicates the female was crossing the roadway southbound, when a larger SUV traveling eastbound struck the female. This SUV then fled the scene. There is no further description at this time.
Investigators are currently processing the scene and searching for any evidence, including any video surveillance from the numerous nearby businesses.
The exact cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the deceased, will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
