FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says that a woman is dead and another is in custody after a shooting Saturday morning close to downtown.
The FWPD says officers were dispatched to The Riv on the Greenway Apartments in the 1800 block of Griswold Drive around 9:30 a.m.
Police are still investigating, but ask anyone with information to come forward.
The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) released the following shortly after the shooting:
Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) officers were dispatched to the area of 1800 Griswold Dr regarding shot being fired in one of the apartments. Officers located an adult female down in one of the apartments with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Medics arrived and pronounced the adult female deceased at the scene. An adult female suspect was also taken into custody near the scene.
The FWPD Homicide Team, Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Air Support Unit (ASU) were called to the scene to continue the investigation. Detectives are interviewing witnesses while CSU is collecting evidence and documenting the scene with the assistance of ASU. The Allen County Coroner’s office was also called to the scene.
There is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.
This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD Homicide Team and the Allen County Coroner’s office.
