INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Department of Corrections says the federal government owes them millions of dollars for the immigration detainees being held at the Miami Correctional Facility. The state has spent around $7 million accommodating them as of March of this year.
The federal government agreed to pay Indiana just over $291 a day per detainee, which is nearly four times the $75 a day it costs for prison inmates.
Payments have not been received yet for 2026, and December’s payment of $4.7 million was received last week.
