INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – AAA says Indiana continues to have the lowest fuel prices in the entire country, and Governor Mike Braun says it’s due to the state’s suspension of the gasoline usage tax and excise tax. Hoosiers have had the nation’s cheapest fuel for the last month, and it is 61-cents less than the national average.
AAA says the average price for gas in Indiana is currently $3.30 a gallon, while the national average is $3.91.

UPDATE (June 4, 2026):
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana Governor Mike Braun is extending the state’s gas tax suspension until July 7th.
The move is saving drivers over 62 cents on every gallon of gas purchased.
Braun says the savings at the pump are “kind of a lifeline through a tough period like this” and adds that whatever happens at the federal level, Hoosiers need to be able to get through it. Indiana’s average gas price is $3.55, according to AAA, as a result of the tax suspension, while the national average is at $4.24 a gallon.

UPDATE (May 27, 2026):
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana Governor Mike Braun is considering extending the holiday on Indiana’s gas taxes. The governor’s current suspension of gas taxes is in effect until June 7th.
Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston told media outlets the governor can suspend state gas taxes for two more months before state lawmakers would need to be involved. Funding from gas taxes is spent on repairing roads, and officials say the state is currently losing out on millions of dollars in road funding due to the gas tax holiday.

UPDATE (May 12, 2026):
WASHINGTON D.C. (ADAMS) – President Trump is looking at suspending the federal gas tax.
That’s what he told reporters at the White House on Monday, adding that as soon as the war is over with Iran, he believes oil prices will “drop like a rock.” This comes as drivers continue to see soaring gas prices at the pump as the war in Iran drags on.
AAA reports the national average price for a gallon of gas today is $4.52, up seven cents from last week.
Suspending the tax that adds about 18 cents per gallon of gas requires an act of Congress.

Here in Indiana, Governor Mike Braun has already suspended our state tax for over a month. Late last week, he also suspended the gasoline excise tax, which is 36-cents a gallon.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana Governor Mike Braun is extending his suspension of the state’s sales tax on gas. He previously announced a 30-day holiday for the tax in April, but it is now extended for 30 days. The governor is now also suspending the gasoline excise tax, which is 36-cents a gallon.
The governor’s announcement came the same day AAA reported the average cost for a gallon of gas in the Hoosier state was $4.75.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Gas prices continue to climb. The national average cost of a gallon of regular is just $4.48, according to AAA.
A week ago, we were at $4.17 a gallon.
Indiana is seeing an average of $4.78. It is a little higher in Fort Wayne. AAA says Summit City drivers are paying on average $4.86.
UPDATE (May 4, 2026):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Gas prices continue to climb. The national average cost of a gallon of regular is just $4.46. That’s up a penny from Sunday and more than 30 cents higher than a week ago, according to AAA.
Some areas in Indiana have surged above $5 a gallon, with the state seeing an average of $4.81. It is a little higher in Fort Wayne.
GasBuddy says Fort Wayne is paying on average $4.90.
UPDATE (May 1, 2026):
Gas prices in Indiana are among the highest in the U.S.
Prices in the Hoosier state hit as high as $4.99 in some areas this week.
GasBuddy reported the highest week-to-week price increase in Indiana- up 84 cents from the week before.
AAA says the average price for gas in Indiana is $4.30 a gallon.
The price of crude oil is a big part of that, but the gas refinery in Whiting in northwest Indiana is a major factor as well.
The refinery has been shut down since Sunday night and is the main supplier of gasoline in the Great Lakes region. GasBuddy’s Patrick DeHaan says it might be offline for a week or two, and prices will remain very high as a result.
UPDATE (April 30, 2026):
(ADAMS) – It’s a lot more expensive to fill the gas tank today throughout Indiana.
Gas prices are up to $4.99 in the state after crude oil rose to $118 a barrel on Wednesday.
That jump followed President Trump saying the U.S. remains committed to blockading the Strait of Hormuz amid the war with Iran. Governor Mike Braun has suspended the state’s sales tax on gas through May 8th.
AAA says the average price for gas in Indiana is $4.229 a gallon.
UPDATE (April 9, 2026):
(ADAMS) – Sales tax on gasoline in Indiana will not be charged for the next 30 days.
Governor Mike Braun issued an executive order suspending the seven-percent sales tax and says it could be extended depending on prices.
The order is in effect through May 8th, and Braun called on retailers to pass the savings on to customers with lower prices. AAA says the average price for gas in Indiana is $4.14 a gallon.
The temporary state “tax holiday” is expected to remove about 17 cents per gallon in state sales tax, though a 36-cent fixed excise tax remains.
Here in Allen County, the price on average for regular unleaded is hovering around $4.15 to $4.19 per gallon.

(ADAMS) – Prices at the pump are again on the way up. AAA says that prices have hit $4.14 on average nationwide. They were at $3.32 a month ago.
Nevada has now joined the list of states where a gallon of regular unleaded is going for five bucks or more.
After a lull, prices in northeast Indiana shot up again on Monday. The average price for a gallon in Allen County is now $4.08.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Governor Braun says he is not ruling out suspending Indiana’s gas tax, with prices jumping every day.
Braun says if the prices keep rising for two-and-a-half to three weeks, he will consider taking that action. He adds that once Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz, prices should drop and ideally drop as much as they have risen.
Hoosiers are paying an average of nearly $3.50 a gallon right now, according to AAA, 50-cents more than last week, and prices could keep rising.
